Apple has released iOS 18.4.1, iPadOS 18.4.1, and macOS 15.4.1 with fix for two major security issues
iOS 18.4.1 and iPadOS 18.4.1 are not major updates, as they do not house major changes and front-facing features. However, we would still advise users to download the latest versions as soon as possible to avoid running into security issues. If you happen to have a compatible iPhone or iPad, check out what you have to do to download and install the latest updates.
1. Launch the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad and head over to General.
2. Select Software Update and then wait for the latest update to show up.
3. Tap on Update Now and enter your device’s passcode to proceed.
This is all that you have to do to download and install the latest update. Note that your device will restart once the update is complete so do not be alarmed.
Apple has also released macOS 15.4.1 to the public, which comes with the same bug fixes and security updates as iOS 18.4.1. This means that it is equally important to update your Mac to avoid running into security issues and threats. Here’s how you can install the update on your Mac.
To install the latest macOS 15.4.1 update on your Mac, head over to the Software Update mechanism in System Settings and install the latest update. Again, your device will restart once the update is complete.
As for what sort of security issues have been fixed, Apple’s release notes for the updates say that iOS 18.4.1 and macOS 15.4.1 fixes two major vulnerabilities. One of the issues impact the CoreAudio code, wile the other attacks the pointer authentication code.
The vulnerability that attacks the CoreAudio involves a malicious audio file, which when processed in the media file could result in code execution. The update fixes the memory corruption issue with better bounds checking.
The other vulnerability impacts the pointer authentication code and any attacker with arbitrary read and write capability will have the ability to bypass it. This will prevent the memory from being tampered and the company has removed the malicious code that exploits the system.
Apart from iOS 18.4.1 and macOS 15.4.1, Apple has also released visionOS 2.4.1 and tvOS 18.4.1 with the same bug and security fixes. You can download the latest updates right now from the Settings app if you want to steer clear from any security issues.
