Apple’s satellite texting on iPhone proves life-saving again as injured climber is rescued from remote Colorado peak
The Snowmass Mountain is quite difficult to climb due to risk of landslide and the ice, making it quite difficult for climbers. The 53 year-old man climbed the mountain but on his way back, he used a technique called glissading, which caused him to hurt his wrist, disallowing him to continue his pursuit. Due to the high altitude, there were no cellular signals which could have allowed him to seek help, but he did remember that his iPhone has satellite texting functionality.
The iPhone’s satellite texting feature was his last option to contact a family member. The family member took note of the situation and contacted the sheriff’s office and Mountain Rescue Aspen. He was situated at the Snowmass Lake, which was roughly eight mules away from the mountain’s parking area. Responders claim that the man was not able to come down on his own and it took 17 rescuers to bring him safely to the ground. Further information mentions that the rescuers arrived to the mountain at 8:25 AM and the climber was safely brought down by 5:30 PM.
Pitkin County Sheriff stated in a press release:
“Mountain Rescue Aspen and the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office remind adventurers that carrying an emergency communication device and knowing how to use Apple Satellite texting can significantly speed up the rescue process. If you are asking for help, don’t hesitate to press the SOS button–it allows MRA to establish direct communication and coordinate a timely response,”
