iPhone 17 Models Will Not Come With A Smaller Dynamic Island, Contrary To Prior Rumours

According to recent information shared by a known analyst, the iPhone 17 models, scheduled to launch later this year, will not feature a smaller Dynamic Island. It was previously reported that the devices will come with a smaller Dynamic Island on the display, which would make the devices worthy of an upgrade from the current models, but based on recent information, the upcoming flagships will look more or less the same as the current models.

iPhone 17 will look the same from the front as the iPhone 16, as the company is not planning to make the Dynamic Island smaller

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 17 models will remain “largely unchanged” which means that from the front, the devices will look more or less similar to the iPhone 16 lineup. Kuo did not mention if a specific variant or the ‘Pro’ models will get a smaller Dynamic Island, so we have to generalise the information.

It was previously reported by analyst Jeff Pu that this year’s iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models will be equipped with a new “metalens” technology for Face ID, which would aid in making the Dynamic Island smaller than it is right now. This means that Kuo’s latest information shared on social media platform X is not in line with prior speculations. Apple does have plans to make the Dynamic Island smaller on the future iterations of the iPhone, but we are not familiar with the timeframe at this point.

We also have to consider that the iPhone 17 launch is months away and the company could change its mind on making the Dynamic Island smaller. Apple introduced the Dynamic island in 2022 with the iPhone 14 Pro models and it is now available on all models. It was also recently reported that the company’s budget iPhone SE 4 could also move away from the notch and adopt Dynamic Island, which would make it a pretty good deal compared to the standard iPhone 16 models.

While the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models appear to be quite standard and similar to the current models, the iPhone 17 Air will be the highlight of this year. The device is expected to feature a slimmer design, but it is not clear how thin the company will plan to go, given how it was having technical issues with the battery substrate. It remains to be seen if the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature any changes on the rear.
