Apple Exclusively Taps Samsung For iPhone Fold Display As Only It Can Deliver Near-Crease-Free Screen Perfection

The display for Apple’s iPhone Fold will be exclusively supplied by Samsung Display, according to a new report. Apple has been working aggressively to perfect the display of its foldable iPhone and it appears that Samsung is the only suppler which can minimise the crease on the screen.

Samsung’s unmatched foldable display technology reportedly secures it an exclusive deal for Apple’s first-ever crease-free iPhone Fold

One of the biggest reasons why Apple has not launched the iPhone Fold at this point is the company’s dissatisfaction with the visible crease on the screen. The company’s high quality standards are restricting its entry into the foldable market and it appears that Samsung has solved the problem, something that no other competitor was able to do before.

If you have ever used a foldable device before, the crease is one of the biggest issues or something that does not justify the premium nature of the device. Reviews have also shared the same concern in the past, but Apple wants its first foldable to be different than the rest. Henceforth, the company wanted to wait until the crease-free foldable screen was technically possible. The company told its suppliers to start from scratch and develop the technology that results in a crease-free display, or one that is barely noticeable.

Samsung made the breakthrough a few months back and sent samples to Apple for approval. A new report from BusinessKorea states that Samsung has finally met Apple’s quality requirements, something that LG and BOE were not able to do. This means that Samsung exclusively gets the display contract from Apple, at least for now.

Apple has decided to equip its first foldable iPhone, set for release in the latter half of next year, exclusively with OLED panels from Samsung Display. This decision marks a pivotal moment in the industry as Samsung Display will be the sole supplier, excluding LG Display and Chinese BOE panels.

Apple typically prefers multiple suppliers in case one gets surrounded by technical issues, giving it room to continue selling the product. LG and BOE will keep on working until a satisfactory outcome is achieved. This time around, though, Apple has shown willingness to work with a single supplier, potentially because it has spent years outside of the foldable market and the standard models are becoming more and more cliched. However, the company also opted for the same approach when developing new A-series and M-series of chips, both of which are made by TSMC.

The iPhone Fold is gradually becoming more clear and it is shaping up to be a strong contender in the foldable market. It would also have a positive impact on the industry, making foldable technology mainstream in the market. The company is also reportedly testing in-display Face ID sensors, but there are no concrete details available on the subject.
