Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone may not just be about thinner bezels or cleaner edges, as has been reported in the past. A new rumor sheds more light on the device and its display technology, stating that the company could be preparing a display change that affects how the device looks, feels, and even how it handles brightness and battery life.
Apple May Be Building A More Seamless Screen Without Going Full Waterfall
According to Weibo-based leaker Digital Chat Station, supply chain sources claim that Apple wants to make a custom micro-curved OLED panel for its 2027 iPhone. Further details suggest that the curve would stay very shallow across all four sides, which could give Apple a softer all-screen look without copying the dramatic waterfall style used on some other phones.
If you did not grasp the context, a shallower curve could help Apple push closer to a bezel-light design while avoiding the distortion problems that usually come with aggressively curved panels. It could also make edge swipes feel more natural, which is the kind of small change users notice over time.
The Display Could Also Be Thinner, Brighter, And More Efficient
The leaker also claims that Apple wants a “pol-less” display, which means removing the polarizer layer found on most OLED panels to make the screen thinner. This would also allow more light to pass through and reduce power draw at the same time. Power efficiency is one of the crucial factors and, conjoined with a 2nm architecture from TSMC, set to debut with the A20 Pro chip in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, would boost battery life.
Apple is also slated to use a crater-shaped light diffusion layer to keep the brightness more even across the panel. When all of these aspects are taken into consideration, it sounds less like a cosmetic tweak and more like Apple trying to build a true anniversary iPhone that feels different the second you turn the screen on.
What Else We Know About Apple’s 20th Anniversary iPhone So Far
Beyond the display itself, the 2027 iPhone will feel like a true 20th anniversary model. The device is still rumored to feature a more bezel-less, all-glass design, and Apple is reportedly testing under-display camera technology. However, in-display Face ID is still uncertain at this stage, so we would have to wait and watch for additional reports.
We will share more details on the 20th anniversary iPhone, and we still have a year more to go before the device hits the shelves. This year, the company is expected to announce its very first foldable iPhone which will feature almost non-existent crease, something that the competition is struggling with, What are your expectations from the all-screen iPhone?
