Apple may not be planning a big premium story for 2026 after all. A new leak has emerged that aims to show dummy units of the forthcoming iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone Ultra, which, according to the latest leak, will be the company’s first foldable. If the latest leak is accurate, the company could be preparing two very different upgrade paths at the same time, with one staying relatively safe and familiar while the other pushes into much riskier territory.
The iPhone 18 Pro May Play It Safe While Apple’s Foldable Tries Something Much Bigger
Based on the leaked images shared by Sonny Dickson, the dummy units are said to showcase the design and form factor of the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple’s first foldable, which has also recently been tipped to be called the iPhone Ultra.
The Pro models look fairly simple, with a familiar design overall, but the images do show a notable aspect, which has been a major part of the rumor mill recently. The iPhone 18 Pro dummy units show a smaller Dynamic Island, which is an indication that the company is moving towards a cleaner front design, but without rushing into a dramatic visual overhaul. What this means is that the new iPhone 18 Pro lineup could end up looking new in a more measured way, which honestly sounds very Apple.
The foldable model is where the leak gets far more interesting, as based on the leak, the company is looking to use a passport-style form factor rather than a clamshell design. The rear seems to feature a horizontal dual-camera layout, the buttons appear to sit on the top edge, and the back looks fully glass. Even the camera section stops short of stretching across the full width, which gives the design a very different feel from what Apple usually does.
The rumored hardware sounds quite ambitious as well, with a 7.8-inch inner display with an iPad-like 4:3 aspect ratio, a 5.5-inch outer screen, an ultra-thin 4.5mm titanium frame, reduced crease visibility, Touch ID, and a price of around $2,000. The bigger picture here is that Apple may be splitting its premium lineup on purpose, using the iPhone 18 Pro as the polished mainstream option while letting the foldable carry the bigger design gamble.
