Apple is testing a dedicated Siri chatbot for iOS 27, as per the latest information obtained from a new report shared by Bloomberg. Mark Gurman claims that the company is said to be working on a new version of Siri that can better compete with AI chat services like ChatGPT and Claude. The app is slated to feature an upgraded experience for iPhone users, and if that happens, we all know that it will also be available for the iPad and Mac.
Apple Is Reportedly Preparing A More Capable Siri Experience That Could Finally Feel Closer To A Real Chatbot
The new Siri app would reportedly support both text and voice input, allowing users a more direct way to interact with Apple’s assistant outside the current interface. Apple is said to be designing the experience around ongoing conversations, which would make Siri feel more like a chatbot and less like a basic command tool.
According to the report, the standalone Siri app would include conversation history, saved chats, search, favorites, and suggested prompts for starting new threads. Apple is also said to be testing list and grid views for past conversations, along with a chat bubble interface that would look more in line with modern AI tools.
Apple is not expected to limit the changes to the new app alone, as Siri would still be accessible through the Side button for voice commands. Apple is also testing a redesigned visual experience, which only goes on to show that the company is not satisfied with the current version of the UI. The new experience includes a new Siri animation, Dynamic Island integration while requests are being processed, and a larger translucent result panel that expands when an answer is ready.
Apart from this, the company is also said to be testing an “Ask Siri” button inside apps, which would let users send content directly to Siri with a request attached. Apple may also add a “Write with Siri” option to the iPhone keyboard as part of its Writing Tools feature, which would give Siri a more active role in day-to-day use.
Bloomberg also says that Apple is planning to bring its delayed Apple Intelligence Siri features to iOS 27, which include personal context, on-screen awareness, and deeper app actions that would allow Siri to do more within and across apps.
The company has recently announced that it will be hosting its WWDC 2026 event in June, which is when iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and other platforms will be announced. We will see the new Siri app in action at the event, which is a major reason to be excited. Do you think a dedicated Siri app will surpass the likes of ChatGPT and Claude?
