Apple has delayed its most awaited iOS 18 feature until next year and it could have a negative impact on iPhone sales. Apple promised last year a handful of Apple Intelligence features for the iPhone, including the new Siri experience with personal context, but as it turns out, we have to wait until next year to use it. Prominent analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claims that the company is aware that Apple Intelligence is ‘underwhelming’ and that it will not drive iPhone upgrades, all thanks to the delay.
Apple Intelligence Siri delay will have an impact on iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 shipments, and Apple has tapped suppliers to be aware
Apple has been removing ads from YouTube related to the personal Siri experience and has also added a disclaimer on its website. Apple’s recent decision to delay the Siri features will have an impact on iPhone shipments this year and the advantage could go in the hands of the competition.
Last year in June, Kuo claimed that Apple Intelligence having a positive impact on iPhone shipments was “too optimistic.” He also stated earlier this year that the appeal associated to Apple Intelligence has “significantly declined” due to the company’s decision to delay the features it showed off when it announced iOS 18. The analyst is continuing his streak of staying cautious about Siri’s Apple Intelligence integration. Ming-Chi Kuo stated today that Apple is aware of the “underwhelming performance” of Apple Intelligence and has asked suppliers to be wary of the conservative iPhone shipments.
Lately, the market consensus has shifted to a more cautious stance on iPhone shipments and Apple Intelligence (Siri), which supports my earlier predictions. Moreover, it’s clear that when Apple shared conservative shipment forecasts with its key suppliers early this year, they had already factored in Apple Intelligence’s underwhelming performance.
Apple has hurt users who were looking forward to the Apple Intelligence Siri features and it will have an impact on the current iPhone 16 sales as well as the sales of the forthcoming iPhone 17 lineup. The company recently stated that the new features will be available to users in the “coming year” but it appears that Apple was not ready for such a critical reaction from users and the tech community.
Apple is clearly having a hard time developing AI features for the iPhone and other products. Apple executives claimed that the company has been working on AI features for a while, but it appears that some of the new entrants are surpassing the Cupertino tech giant. It remains to be seen if Apple will pick up the pace when it comes to development of the new features. In any case, we will keep you notified with the latest updates.
