Apple’s Beta History Offers Two Possible Timelines For iOS 27 Public Beta Release
Apple keeps up with its past trends, and they only shift slightly depending on the date and day. The company has opened public beta testing shortly after the third developer beta, which was the case with iOS 16, iOS 17, and iOS 18. This allowed non-developers to try new features around mid-July before the final release in September.
However, the company shifted its approach a bit last year, when the first public beta of iOS 26 was released two days after Developer Beta 4. The company’s decision likely boiled down to the biggest iPhone interface redesign in years. The extra development cycle gave Apple more time to polish the software before expanding testing to millions of users.
This leaves Apple’s iOS 27 platform in an interesting yet unpredictable situation, but we still have a good idea of when the platform could be released to the public.
If Apple returns to its traditional schedule, the public beta of iOS 27 could arrive as early as next week. However, if it follows the iOS 26 strategy instead, users may need to wait until after Developer Beta 4, which would likely push the release to between July 22 and July 24.
