Apple Planning Three Major Changes For iPadOS 19, Making It ‘More Like macOS’

Apple will announce iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 on June 19 at its WWDC 2025 event alongside a bunch of other updates for its entire product line. iOS 19 is expected to be a bigger update than initially reported as the company is planning a major overhaul of the UI with visionOS-inspired glass effects. Well, it is now being reported that iPadOS 19 will be a major step up from the current version as well, with the operating reported to be ‘more like macOS.’

iPadOS 19 will be a major update focusing on productivity, multitasking and app window management like macOS

Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, shares in his latest Power On newsletter that Apple’s upcoming iPadOS 19 update will make the platform ‘more like macOS.’ Users have always wished for macOS on the iPad, and while Apple will not fulfil this demand, it will bridge the gap between the two operating systems.  Here’s how Mark Gurman describes the iPadOS 19 update and what areas the company will improve.

I’m told that this year’s upgrade will focus on productivity, multitasking and app window management — with an eye on the device operating more like a Mac. It’s been a long time coming, with iPad power users pleading with Apple to make the tablet more powerful.

Gurman has highlighted three aspects of iPadOS 19 update, which will transform the iPad experience into more like a Mac. Users have always found iPadOS a bit restricting when it comes to what you can do on the device, raging from input methods to functionality.

While Gurman did not provide any additional details, check out how Apple can improve the operating system by offering some key changes to the interface.

Improved Multitasking could allow users to manage their windows in a more Mac-like fashion. It could include a new split screen controls for the end user along with a handful of shortcuts for easier access and management.

Improved Productivity could be accomplished through extensive list of productivity-focused features and possibly new apps that take advantage of a bigger screen.

Improved app window management could be an extension of the multitasking aspect of the operating system. If you have an iPad, you will find it hard to adjust apps on different parts of the screen with fewer controls to manage them compared to macOS. iPadOS 19 could allow the iPad to have more control on minimising and maximising windows with the press of a button.

Take note that these are mere speculations at this stage as the final word rests with Apple, but if the news has any heft to it, the company is heading in the right direction by fixing some key elements of the operating system. We will hear more details on the operating system as soon as further details are available. iOS 19 is also expected to be a major update but some of its features could be delayed until next year.
