Apple Announces iPhone 16e With A New Look, Binned A18 Chip, Custom C1 Modem, And A Hefty $599 Price

Apple has finally announced the new iPhone 16e with some pretty major upgrades and a hefty price tag that we were not expecting. The new iPhone 16e features a new iPhone 14-like design but with a single lens camera setup at the back. Internally, the device is packed with the latest internals, allowing the device to keep up with anything the flagship models are capable of doing.

iPhone 16e announced with A18 chip, Apple Intelligence support, new in-house C1 modem, more

As mentioned, the iPhone 16e features a design similar to the iPhone 14 models with a notch for Face ID and a bigger 6.1-inch OLED display. The device finally outs an end to the Home button and and minimises the bezels on all four sides, which is a major plus for a budget device. On the back, the device features a single 48MP Fusion camera, which is capable of taking higher resolution shots and record 4K video on the go. The camera can provide up to 2x “optical-quality” Telephoto option, according to Apple, but real-world tests remain to be seen.

The iPhone 16e also comes with an A18 chip, the same chip the powers the iPhone 16 lineup, which brings Apple Intelligence to the budget device. You will get all the high-end features like Genmoji, Image Playground,Writing Tools, and much more. You will also be able to use the enhanced version of Siri which is slated to arrive later this year. The A18 chip comes with a 6-core CPU but a binned 4-core GPU, which is a slightly modified version of the chip on the iPhone 16 with a 5-core GPU.

With the iPhone 16e launch, Apple has also introduced its custom C1 modem, while the rest of the lineup features a modem supplied by Qualcomm. It is only the beginning for Apple and it remains to be seen how the new modem performs against its flagship counterpart. Apple states that the C1 modem is so power efficient that the iPhone 16e features the best battery life on any 6.1-inch iPhone that it announced.

Additional features includes USB-C port instead of Lightning, an Action Button instead of the Mute Switch, IP68 water and dust resistance, and much more. However, Apple has also removed MagSafe on the device, which is not a downgrade, per se, but its absence is a shocker. Possibly, the device will support accessories that feature MagSafe magnets. It also supports the new Satellite features when users are outside of the network range, Emergency SOS, Roadside Assistance, Find My via Satellite, and much more.

The iPhone 16e features a hefty price tag of $599, which is on the brink of not being a budget phone, as we have previously reported a sib-$500 price tag for the device. You can pre-order the iPhone 16e on Friday and it is available in the classic White and Black colour options with 128GB or 256GB of storage capacities. We will keep you updated with intrinsic details, so do stay tuned.
