Apple’s C1 Modem Will Allow The iPhone 16e To Feature Better Battery Life Than iPhone 16

The all-new iPhone 16e has been officially announced with a plethora of upgrades and while we have seen a similar design in the past, it is a major step in the right direction for a budget handheld. Apple also reported that the iPhone 16e features the best battery life on any iPhone with a 6.1-inch display, all thanks to its custom C1 modem.

iPhone 16e will feature better battery life than the iPhone 16 thanks to Apple’s custom C1 modem

The iPhone 16e comes with the same design as the iPhone 14, but lacks a few features like a dual-lens camera setup and MagSafe on the back. However, the devices makes up for it in other respects, such as support for Apple Intelligence and an Action Button instead of the Mute Switch. As it turns out, the battery life of the iPhone 16e is also superior than the iPhone 14 or any other 6.1-inch iPhone for that matter. Apple praises its custom C1 5G modem  for its power efficiency which makes it happen.

Expanding the benefits of Apple silicon, C1 is the first modem designed by Apple and the most power-efficient modem ever on an iPhone, delivering fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity. Apple silicon — including C1 — the all-new internal design, and the advanced power management of iOS 18 all contribute to extraordinary battery life.

Apple says that the iPhone 16e’s C1 modem is efficient enough to have an impact on the device’s battery life. The company has nit shared the numbers on stage, but it appears that the Snapdragon modems on the standard iPhone 16 lineup consumes a lot of power.

the iPhone 16e is the only iPhone at this stage equipped with Apple’s custom 5G modem. The company will trickle the the new modem down to the forthcoming iPhone 17 Air, which will launch later this year. Apple will treat the C1 modem the same way it did with its custom silicon.

if you are not familiar, Apple launched the M1 chip in 2020, and then gradually shifted its entire product line to the M-series of chips. The performance of the chips also increased overtime and the same can be expected from the C1 modem. We can safely presume that despite its efficiency, the modem can not compete against Snapdragon-branded modems from Qualcomm, but future iterations could show improvements. It can also be seen in the technical specification page of the iPhone 16e that the C1 modem does not support 5G mmWave technology.
