Why Apple Should Relaunch And Redesign The iMac Pro Next Year

It has been seven years since the launch of the iMac Pro, Apple’s most high-end all-in-one desktop solution. While Apple did not release an upgrade to the machine, it did introduce the all-new 24-inch iMac with Apple Silicon on board. It is not the perfect time for Apple to launch an upgraded iMac Pro, considering the company’s position in the industry and its product line.

It’s the perfect time for Apple to launch the new iMac Pro, considering its custom chips and display technology have come a long way

Apple has a ‘Pro’ device for each of its product, other than the iMac lineup, which only comes in the 24-inch display size boasting the base configuration of the company’s M series of chips. While it is a pretty decent machine, it is not oriented towards professionals who demand raw power in an all-in-one solution. This poses us to question if the company will ever launch the iMac Pro with an ‘Ultra’ branded M series of chips.

It was previously reported by Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman that Apple is still working on a new version of the iMac which could see daylight in 2025. If the news has any heft to it, we could see the iMac Pro featuring the company’s M4 Ultra chip, similar to the Mac Studio. Do take the news with a grain of salt as there are no concrete details available on the release and Apple itself has not shared any insights on the matter as well.

Apple introduced the M1 iMac in 2021 and soon after, it discontinued the 27-inch iMac Pro. With the performance gains brought forward by Apple Silicon, the iMac Pro with an Intel-based chip did not made sense, even after it was marketed as “the most powerful Mac ever made.” However, it does suggest that the company could relaunch the machine with a parallel approach. If the company does decide to release a new iMac Pro, it will be powered by the ‘Ultra’ or ‘Extreme’ line of Apple silicon chips, the latter being the least possible as the company is slated to have canceled the chip.

Over the years, interest in the 27-inch or a larger version of the iMac has increased and there is still a possibility that the device will make a comeback. If it does, Apple will introduce a brand new design, probably similar to the 24-inch version. However, the bezels could be smaller as it will be a ‘Pro’ device after all. The company would still market the device as an all-in-one solution, which will come with its own set of Magic accessories.

Apple iMac Pro redesign and relaunch

Currently, the 27-inch iMac has been replaced by the launch of the Mac Studio and the Studio Display which work hand-in-hand for a streamlined user experience. However, there does not exist an all-in-one solution with the company’s high-end specifications for the professionals. Apple Silicon has come a long way and the M4 chip has surprised us all with its year-over-year upgrade. What this means is that it might be the perfect time for Apple to relaunch and redesign its iMac Pro with top of the line specifications.

Possibly, this time around, Apple will launch an even darker shade of Space Black with the iMac Pro. We can safely presume that even if the company decided to launch the iMac Pro again, it will be available in the 27-inch display size, if not slightly bigger due to the trimmed-down bezels. In terms of performance, the iMac Pro will sit with the flagship Mac Studio and the Mac Pro powered by the higher-end chips of the M series. With the company’s Apple Intelligence advancements, the iMac Pro could serve to be a valuable machine as well. The future of the AI features will require raw power and the ‘Pro’ iMac will be more than capable of handling it.

Since Apple has also launched its Pro Display XDR and the Studio Display since the discontinuation of the iMac Pro, we believe the display quality will be far better as well. We could see the nano-texture technology on the iMac Pro as an optional upgrade. While everything sounds great on paper, we still have no word if the company is looking to launch a new version of the iMac Pro. With that said, we would advise users to take the news with a grain of salt.
