You Can No Longer Downgrade To iOS 26.4, Leaving You Stranded On The Last Update

Apple has now shut the downgrade window for iOS 26.4, which means that anyone who moved to iOS 26.4.1 is officially stuck there now.

Apple Has Stopped Signing iOS 26.4, As It Moves Ahead

Following last week’s iOS 26.4.1 release, Apple has stopped signing iOS 26.4, which means that iPhone users can no longer roll back to the older version. It is the usual Apple move, but it lands with that annoying “well, guess that’s done” energy.

Apple’s iOS 26.4.1 release listed general bug fixes in its release notes, and the company’s security page also didn’t show any published CVE entries for the update. Even so, users noticed that the newer build appears to fix an iCloud syncing bug, which may explain why Apple was in no mood to keep the older version hanging around.

The timing is also worth watching because Apple is already moving forward with iOS 26.5 beta release testing. The company pushed out iOS 26.5 public beta 2 on April 14, and that update includes changes tied to Apple Maps, RCS encryption testing, and additional smaller changes.

All of this also fits right before WWDC 2026, which Apple has scheduled for the week of June 8. With bigger software news coming soon, including the broader conversation around iOS 27’s Siri, Apple clearly wants the platform moving in one direction only. Since jailbreaking is out of the question these days, there is no harm in sticking to the latest version of iOS.

We will keep you posted when newer versions of the update arrive, so be sure to keep an eye out for more details on the matter.
