Apple has announced new improvements to Liquid Glass at WWDC 2026, refining the translucent design language it introduced last year across iOS, macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, visionOS, and tvOS. The update is not a full redesign, but it should make the interface easier to read and more comfortable to use.
Apple Is Giving Users More Control Over Liquid Glass Transparency
The biggest change is a new transparency slider, which will allow users to control how clear or opaque the Liquid Glass effect appears. This means users who like the glassy look can keep it, while those who prefer better readability can tone it down without disabling the entire visual style.
Apple is also improving sidebar behavior across its apps. Sidebars will now extend to the full edge of the window, while refraction effects continue underneath them for a cleaner look. Sidebar icons will also retain their color, making navigation easier.
The company is also adding more Liquid Glass layers to app icons, giving them a deeper and more consistent look. Liquid Glass is clearly not going away, but Apple is making it a little less aggressive.
