iOS 27 Could Make Genmoji Read Your Mind Before You Even Type A Prompt

Apple’s Genmoji feature in iOS 26 has always sounded fun on paper, but when it comes to daily use, it still asks a little too much from users. However, iOS 27 could fix that with a smarter suggestion system that brings custom emoji ideas to users before they even think of typing a custom prompt.

Apple Reportedly Wants Genmoji To Feel Less Like Work In iOS 27

According to a new report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple is working on a new “Suggested Genmoji” feature for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27. The feature will reportedly create Genmoji suggestions using your photo library and commonly typed phrases, which means the keyboard could automatically surface more personal emoji-style creations based on your use and habits.

However, it’s not for everyone, which is fine, since the company will potentially add a new toggle inside keyboard settings to turn it off. This part is quite significant, as the feature uses photos and typing patterns for suggestions that naturally raise privacy questions, even if Apple keeps the processing private and controlled.

Genmoji first arrived with the launch of iOS 18.2 as part of Apple Intelligence, letting users create custom emoji by typing prompts. Apple later expanded the feature in iOS 26 with more customization options and the ability to mix two emojis together. However, discoverability remains the bigger issue here, as most users are not going to sit and craft perfect emoji prompts.

Suggested Genmoji could make the feature more natural, and instead of forcing users to think of an idea first, iOS 27 will simply offer relevant creations based on what they often say or the people and moments in their photo library. Apple has not announced iOS 27 yet, so the final implementation could still change.

Apple is also working on a dedicated Siri app in iOS 27 with chatbot capabilities, which will enhance Apple Intelligence capabilities and make it utility based, instead of just a shiny new upgrade for headlines.

If the feature works as intended, Genmoji could become less of a novelty and more of something people actually use inside iMessage. Apple will announce iOS 27 next month on June 8 at its WWDC 2027 event, and we will be covering it extensively, so be sure to stick around for more details.
