Apple is working on a new variant of the MacBook, and it will surpass the ‘Pro’ models in terms of design and functionality. The device is expected to feature new technologies, including an OLED display, compared to the mini-LED display on the current machines. As per the latest report, the Ultra variant and the Pro variants of the MacBook are launching this fall.
Apple’s MacBook Lineup Could Become More Confusing This Fall
Initially, it was reported that Apple would replace the Pro models with an Ultra-branded model, but it appears that the company is looking to introduce an entirely new device. Gurman previously noted that the MacBook Ultra would launch this year, but he did not mention the Pro model. There were also rumors that the Ultra model will be delayed.
Today, Gurman reported that the touchscreen MacBook, with an all-new design and a touchscreen, would launch this year, powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. The ‘Ultra’ model will be “positioned at the top of Apple’s lineup.”
However, there seems to be a slight twist to the theory. The analyst reported yesterday that the MacBook Pro models with an M6 chip will arrive later this year as well.
Apple has tested the M6 chip as part of a refreshed entry-level MacBook Pro, code-named J804, which has been planned for this year.
Gurman released an extensive report stating that the company plans to skip the M6 Pro and M6 Max chips and release its M7 chips instead, which would be announced next year.
All in all, with every report combined, we can safely presume that the MacBook Ultra and MacBook Pro models are coming later this year in the fall with M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. However, the MacBook Pro with an M6 chip could also see daylight later this year. We have to note that the M6 variant will be an entry-level model and not the high-end variant with more powerful chips.
